Connecting Across the World: A Special Project for Pride Month

Pride Month is not only a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community but also an opportunity to reflect on the connections that bring us together. This year, one such connection has been brought to life through the inspiring project of Lysandre, a high school student from Nancy, France, who embarked on a journey to explore the LGBTQ+ rights movement in the United States.

When is Cincinnati Pride? What to know ...

Lysandre's project, which involved in-depth research and an enlightening interview with Chris Selbach, took on special significance thanks to the connection between our cities—Cincinnati and Nancy. The project was born out of Lysandre's passion for LGBTQ+ rights, inspired by her own experiences as a member of the LGBT+ community. Through this, she discovered the vibrant LGBTQ+ community in Cincinnati, a city that continues to be a beacon of hope and progress for equality.

As part of the Sister City connection, the project also allowed Lysandre to connect with Carla from Cincinnati, further highlighting the unique bond between our cities. This exchange was made possible through the American Library of Nancy, which served as a key bridge in this cross-cultural collaboration.

What started as a school assignment turned into a deeply personal exploration of identity, rights, and activism. Lysandre’s project not only deepened her understanding of LGBTQ+ rights in the U.S. but also helped her discover a newfound pride in her own work, pushing her toward her goal of becoming a journalist dedicated to culture and activism.

As we celebrate Pride Month, it’s essential to acknowledge how these kinds of international exchanges and shared values help foster understanding and progress on a global scale. Lysandre's project is a testament to the power of collaboration, the importance of fighting for what is right, and the lasting impact that a Sister City connection can have.

We wish Lysandre the best of luck as she continues her journey to becoming a journalist, and we are proud to be a part of her story. As the fight for equality continues, let us all remain hopeful for a brighter, more inclusive future for the LGBTQ+ community worldwide.

Happy Pride Month!
